小李子对托福考试的建议

阅读是整个托福考试考中最容易拿分的一个项目，但是大量的考生却在这个项目上面栽了大跟头。究其原因，当然词汇量在其中占了一方面因素;但是我们还需要更好的结合上下句进行猜测。从而能够一边记忆单词，一边提升我们的猜测能力，达到事半功倍。

首先我们来认识一下词汇题：

The word X in the passage is closest in meaning to …

The phrase X in the passage is closest in meaning to…

OG 这么说词汇题的：“The question is asking for the meaning as it is used in the  passage.”也就是考察考生单词在特定语言环境下的意思。

当然如果我们在看到一个词汇题目时认识该单词，同时也认识四个选项中的词汇，也发现了在下面四个选项中只有一个单词的意思符合题目的意思，那么我们秒选。但是，不认识我们该怎么办呢?  今天我们来重点探讨其中一种方式，从而更好的帮助我们来判断：

1. 逻辑关系判断----通过分析句子间的关系，来得出线索，帮助判断

Growth, reproduction, and daily metabolism all require an organism to  expend energy. The expenditure of energy is essentially a process of budgeting,  just as finances are budgeted. If all of one’s money is spent on clothes, there  may be none left to buy food or go to the movies. Similarly, a plant or animal  cannot squander all its energy on growing a big body if none would be left over  for reproduction, for this is the surest way to extinction.

The word “squander” in the passage is closest in meaning to

○ Extend

○Transform

○ Activate

○ Waste

该单词的难度系数还是比较高的，乍一看完了，不认识，但是经过今天的分析，我相信你的思路会得到拓展。

解析： 看到squander 这个单词不认识，我们来找一下线索。在句子的开头一个副词，similarly(相似),  我们知道这句话和上一句话的道理是相似的。 这时候，我们就来重点分析上一句话， If all of one’s money is spent on  clothes, there may be none left to buy food or go to the movies  (如果我们把钱都买衣服，那么就没有钱买食物，去看电影)，我们知道squander 所在的句子逻辑线索也应该为：a plant or animal cannot  squander all its energy on growing a big body if none would be left over for   reproduction植物或者动物也不应该把能量都花在长枝干上，因为如果这样植物就没有能量结种子从而繁衍下去了，所以squander 意思为:  spend,花一点叫花，全部花完就不叫花了，那叫浪费，花钱大手大脚的大仙不觉得是这样吗?很显然只有waste 跟其最接近. A. 延伸， B，转变 C.  激活。所以这个题目我们选择D.
